Presque Isle Community Library

The Presque Isle Community Library is connected to the Presque Isle Town Hall and Community Center. Its history starts with Irma Stein, a library science graduate from Janesville, WI., who took residence in Presque Isle with her husband, Cecil. She opened our first library in the office of the old school, and stocked the office with donated books. The library eventually moved into a school room after the school closed down, where Irma continued to volunteer her time for 25 years receiving a pittance for a budget. Pam Eschenbauch started volunteering at the library starting in 1979, as the Story Time Lady. In 1987 Irma had to retire to a senior facility, and lost her eyesight. Pam took correspondence courses, and became the new Librarian/Director in 1988. Library usage grew and the amount of books increased, and when the new Community Center was built in 1994, it included space for the library. Growth has since continued at a tremendous pace, and a new building was completed in 2007. The space has more than doubled, and a basement is under the new area where yoga classes, travelogues, meetings and more are hosted.

North Lakeland School (NLS) was established in 1970 as a consolidation of several smaller community schools. Nestled deep in a beautiful woodland setting, surrounded by numerous lakes and streams, NLS has a special charm. The five townships that NLS serves -- Boulder Junction, part of Land O’Lakes, Manitowish Waters, Presque Isle, and Winchester -- comprise the largest geographic elementary school district in the State of Wisconsin.

NLS is a 4K through 8th grade school known for its excellent academic programs, a low ratio of students to staff, unique outdoor education program, and innovative use of class configuration and technology. The school prides itself on the quality of care given to each student and upholds a tradition of creating competent and responsible citizens who will become tomorrow’s leaders.
